Help with Side Effects at long last......

Welcome

Welcome to Simply Susie.  This will take you through my breast cancer journey stage by stage. It's been a long hard battle but with a positive outlook each and every day that's what has got me through. Anyone who truely believes in themselves can acheive anything they put their mind to. I challenge you to try it.......

I hope I can help at least one person with the information

Feelings

I like to think of myself as a young woman. I have a youthful spirit, I dress young, and no one ever guesses my age correctly. As the number crept above 40, I convinced myself the numbers didn't matter. Your as old as you feel right? and I felt 30 ish.

Until you hear the word cancer, then I felt more like 80 not 44. The word "cancer" adds a certain slugishness to you. You wonder how much time you have left. Even if you turn out like me, to have a pretty good prognosis, you still become incredibly, possibly excessively aware of time. How much has gone by, how little you have left, what you want to do with it. What I didn't want to do was to waste one single second.

I met some truely wonderful women, one showed me her engagement ring and hoped her hair would grow out in time for her wedding. Another young women  talked about going back to university but wondered if she was ever going to be able to have children one day, then said she couldn't worry about that because at least she was alive.  I continued to dress up, live it up, go out, have fun living my life as much as I could even if some days I felt crap.

I refused to be anything but positive and kept my youthful vigor throughout my ordeal. I know I have more years behind me than ahead of me, even without a life threatening illness. My awareness of that has guided my post cancer outlook on life. We all have things we have to do, responsibilities, bills to pay etc. But I won't spend one second of whatever time is left in a world of only shoulds.

Cancer gives you the awareness that time is precious, and that we can control a fair portion of how we spend it and who we spend it with. I am refocusing my work life on tasks and opportunities that make me feel fulfilled, as if my time here mattered. I am eliminating all negative influences and people. Those who judge, those whose jealousy is toxic, those who love to complain constantly. Certainly makes you feel so much lighter.

Life is precious and we need to remember that. So each day make sure you smile and be grateful  ❤
